As a Certified Lactation Counselor, my passion is working with mothers and their families to support and guide toward their breastfeeding goals.

As a Certified Lactation Counselor, I understand that breasfeeding decisions are made by the mother, who may have values and goals different from others. I work to solve problems quickly, offer the mother and her family appropriate support in a non-judgemental way, and advocate for the family. I generally can be with a family within 12 hours of intial contact and provide ongoing phone/email support after a visit. Visits can be done in the family's home or in a public place of their choosing. I offer add'l follow up sessions as well at a reduced rate. I also partner with another CLC in case I am unable to meet the family within 12 hours of intial contact. During our visit(s), we will cover:

  • Preparation for breastfeeding

  • Importance of skin to skin for momma and baby

  • Newborn nursing reflexes

  • What to expect during first week

  • Latch instructions

  • Milk transistion

  • Baby's cues for nursing

  • Breastfeeding positions

  • How and when to use a breast pump

The CLC credential signifies that I have demonstrated the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitudes to provide breastfeeding counseling and management support to families who are thinking about breastfeeding or who have questions or problems during the course of breastfeeding/lactation. CLCs are dedicated to the promotion, protection, and support of breastfeeding and human lactation in their work to prevent and solve breastfeeding problems. I understand that breastfeeding works best when it is the cultural norm and when the provider of lactation support and services is culturally competent. Research has shown that the education required of CLCs prior to certification is associated with improved breastfeeding outcomes.
